Good Morning Sweet Kids,
As we have another rainy day, I thought I would share a fun activity that you can do inside! Yesterday, my kids and I planned a spa day. First we sat down and thought about what kinds of activities we needed to include. Merryn and Nyella drew pictures of the activities so we wouldn't forget them. Then, we researched a face mask recipe for kids. We wrote down this recipe so we could save it for another day! After my kids relaxed with spa music, cucumbers on their eyes and a face mask we made smoothies and painted our nails. While they waited they waited for their nails to dry they also listened to some of their favourite stories on Storyline online. https://www.storylineonline.net/ This was such a great way to spend the morning! Good Morning Sweet Kids, It looks like it may rain today so my kids and I thought we would put together a rainy day activity for you. This morning we made salt dough. For this recipe you need 1 cup of flour, 1 cup of salt and a half a cup of water. Do you remember how many half cups fit into a whole cup? When you have finished mixing these ingredients, roll out the dough to 1/2 an inch thick and use your favourite cookie cutters to make different shapes. If your shape has only straight sides do you remember what the corners are called? Vertex or vertices if there is more than one! As I have 3 kids I had to divide the dough into 3 fair shares. There were 3 balls of dough. Each of my kids got 1/3 of the dough. This means they each got one out of the 3 pieces! I hope you have a great day! xxMs. Amy A message from Emma: I have been playing with my parents and sharing whit my family and friends by video. Also I learned how to read and write in Spanish. And for sure I am having so much fun with my cat Chancy. I miss a lot my teachers and all my friends in the school! A message from Theo: Hi Amy, Hope you're all well. We're all fine here. This week we made an obstacle course around the apartment. We made play dough, measuring the ingredients together and then making letters and words together. We've been keeping a little diary, writing a sentence or two about our day. 'I love my playdough man, so I won't smash him.' We got out for a walk around High Park today, Theo was Navigator telling us which direction to head in. We found an app called Teach your monster to read, which has some great games for reading practice. We love reading everyone's updates and hope to see you soon. You can share any of this. Becky and Theo. To my sweet students, Yesterday Merryn was wearing strawberry pjs so we decided to have a strawberry themed day! We planted strawberry seeds and talked about what seeds need to grow. Do you remember how a seed has a seed coat that needs to be softened by the rain and how it needs to be at the right temperature? Then it has a food store inside that helps it grow. We watched a video that showed us how you can plant a strawberry in the ground and the seeds will sprout because the seeds are all over the berry. https://www.facebook.com/FirstMediaBlossom/videos/369084673772697/UzpfSTUxODAxNDQ4MDoxMDE1ODA1MTIwNjk1NDQ4MQ/ Later in the day we decided to use strawberries we had bought to make jam. It was fun measuring together and learning why the hot jam seals the jars. Nyella was happy to add a new recipe to the recipe book she started. I love all of your stories! Keep them coming! I also want you to show your parents how you know how to copy out different sentences on your own now and how some of you are sounding out your words. Sending love! xAmy, Nyella, Merryn & Gavin A message from Esther: I have been doing a lot of Pokémon, learning to read a clock and birdwatching. A message from Leeloominai: Here are some pictures of me doing my work! A message from Amy: Something very exciting happened at our house today! Merryn and Gavin's favourite bear decided to run away and play hide and seek! He told Merryn that is she wrote him some questions he would answer them and help her find his hiding place! (Parents remember many kids will not write just because you asked them to. It needs to be meaningful to them. Take yourself out of the equation so it is not a power-struggle but is magical instead!) A message from Poppy! A message from Jonah! A message from Katalina: Miss Amy I miss you a lot, how was your day? How are your kids? my day is good. I have been a little bit sick, but feeling better today. No fever! I have been very busy with my family, my mom set up a classroom in the basement and are doing lots of fun things. Here are some pictures. Miss Amy I miss you a lot, I wish we had class again A message from Geronimo: Dear Amy, The persons is my Star Wars picture were Obi Wan Kenobi and Kylo Ren. On my break I’ve been going outside every day, and I’ve been building Star Wars things from LEGO. I’ve seen number 5 of Star Wars, half of number 6 of Star Wars, number 4 of Star Wars, I’ve seen number 3 of Star Wars, I’ve seen number 1 of Star Wars, I’ve seen number 2 of Star Wars. My favorite is number 6. It is Return of the Jedi. Have you watched any movies on your break? Love, Geronimo Hi Amy, Here are two more Star Wars pictures for Gavin. I am glad he liked them. This is Rey and Darth Vader Battling. The next one is Finn and Captain Phasma battling. Love, Geronimo A message from Oscar: Thanks Amy, hope you had a good break! Those cookies WERE delicious. (And yes, Oscar helped make them!) On the break I played and went to a nature walk in High Park. We saw ducks and robins and saw bison at the zoo. But those bisons came from the prairies. They are tough! I builded a dinosaur bottle! There is a pterodactyl and a spinosaurus inside and a pine cone that’s supposed to be a tree. We made a video about Wild Kratts with a colossal squid: https://photos.app.goo.gl/AqjKVRxCChxCA6Ja8 Hope you like it! Take care! Oscar (and Daddy) A message from Rosie: A message from Rafe: A message from Ms. Hyma: Hello all my buttercups, I miss all your happy faces. I hope you and your families had an enjoyable March Break together. As for me, the March Break was a time of rest and relaxation. Olivia , Olaf and I watched Frozen two five times, and had many YouTube dance parties. I’m looking forward reading all your messages, and seeing your pictures of what you have been up to. Love Hyma A message from George: A message from Amy & her kids: Nyella, Merryn and Gavin:
Last week we went to a cottage for a week. We felt very lucky because there was so much snow and so many places to hike. On one hike we noticed small holes in the tree bark. We wondered what made these holes. When we looked it up we found out that many insects burrow holes in trees. While we were walking Merryn found a big piece of bark from a birch tree. We spoke about how First Nations people used to use this bark as paper. We also looked at how some trees had their leaves and some did not. We spoke about how deciduous trees lose their leaves in the fall and evergreens keep their needles. We also spoke about how First Nations people helped the early settlers survive in the late 1600s-1700s by showing them how they could use cedar tea to cure scurvy, and use hemlock and juniper as medicine. On this walk we also learned that our cheeky Gavin likes to eat snow. Oh boy! My Sweet Kids, I just had to write you a letter because I miss you and hope you are all well. I have had so many adventures over the break. I thought I would share one story with you today. Here, my daughters Nyella and Merryn decided to make cookie jars for our friends. We had fun estimating how many chocolate chips were in a half cup and measuring all the ingredients. When we were done, Nyella wrote out the instructions on the jar so her friends would know how to bake the cookies. Merryn just decided to write "Eat me, go ahead!" on her cookie jar...so I hope her friends were able to figure the recipe out!
I wonder what you have been up to. I have decided to start this new page on our classroom website so we can keep in touch and share our stories. This is what you can do. Draw a picture of something you have done and write a sentence or two to describe it. Have your parents take a picture of your work and send it to me. I will post it on our classroom website for everyone to see. Another thing you can do is to write me a letter describing your break and asking some questions. Have your parents take a picture of your work and email it to me. I promise that I will write you back! jessicaamy.craze@tdsb.on.ca I hope to hear from you soon. Sending love, Ms. Amy |
Sharing Our StoriesDuring distanced learning our class wanted to feel connected to each other. For this reason, we set up this page on our website. Here the students shared their stories with one another! Parent permission was received to post all pictures. This year, we will be using this page to show weekly student work. Archives
