A Message from Leeloominai:
This week has been busy, Leeloo has had a lot of good days and I have been/am so proud of her accomplishments. We have been going out for walks, scooter rides, we met up with a friend who lives just across the school, we went for bike rides, then we found a nice spot and had a little picnic. She also helped my friends plant some veggies in our backyard and just been spending a lot of mommy/Leeloo time.

A Message from Poppy:
Last week was Poppy's sixth birthday so we took a little break from school work and pretended to be on holiday! Poppy received a new bike and helmet and we spent lots of time outside practicing balancing on it. We transplanted our seedlings to the garden and inspired by the book Miss Rumphius, we planted lupine seeds. Poppy was given new paints and painted a picture of poppies! Lots of time was spent drawing pictures and writing out descriptions of the pictures. There may have also been a lot of Minecraft!!!

All the best,
Poppy

A Message from Oscar:
This week, we did a lot of activities around the theme of ice cream! Oscar opened an ice cream shop, created a menu and did a great job serving his customers and doing calculations at the cashier's desk. He also had lots of fun making real home-made ice cream with his dad. It was delicious!
Oscar is continuing to work on his storytelling and writing skills. He wrote a poem, and a true story about his encounter with fire ants in California.
Oscar also created an obstacle course for his stuffed animals and made a diagram of it so that we can re-create it again in the future. He also built a fortress for his hummingbird Molly to keep her safe from predators.

A Message from Jonah:
Jonah had a lot of fun learning how to stay safe on a bike. Although he hasn't quite got the hang of riding a bike, he's well versed in bike safety. His current "ride" is missing a bell which doesn't make it completely safe. We hope to improve on that soon.

A Message from Jonah:
Jonah has been busy doing many of your On line Learning Assignments and exploring other things of interest. Last week we read the story of "Chicken Little" and retold the story using "First", "Then", "Next", and "Finally" in a sequence.
This week Jonah learned how to draw Scaredy Squirrel. Much like Skcaredy Squirrel, Jonah's Family has an Emergency Kit. Through careful analysis Jonah concluded that we had: 1.Too many candles 2. Just the right amount of flashlights, and 3. Not enough emergency blankets.
Outside of school, Jonah enriches his life with a monthly Kiwi Co. Crate. This month's theme is "My Body & Me" in which he learned about human anatomy and body systems. This crate also gives you a great opportunity to play Doctor with its' "Check up and Doctor's Notes" card. Below is a picture of Jonah posing with the stethoscope he created.

A Message from Leeloominai:
Leeloo lost a tooth over the weekend, she was very excited because she was very brave about it and because the tooth fairy came to collect the tooth.
She also learned addition and subtraction with mommy and counted while connecting the dots. She then spend the rest of the weekend until Wednesday at her grandmother's.

A Message from Katalina:
Katalina is having so much fun with the weekly activities, for last week she wrote the following poem.

Tita & Fisha
Tita and Fisha were going on a swim
then they found a shark and it was not scary,
it was their friend name Shita.
Then they saw a big scary shark named Troy
and he loves to eat fish.
He was going to eat Tita and Fisha,
then he gobbles them up.

A Message from Oscar:
Oscar had a great week. He recently received a big bag full of National Geographic Kids magazines from his older cousins and has been happily combing through them. He loves the issue about snakes and came up with a story about a rattlesnake and python (with a play-doh illustration!) He also worked on drawings of some of his favourite sea creatures - a piranha, giant squid and colossal squid.

A Message from Oscar:
Happy Friday! I hope you had a good week.
Oscar had a busy, insect-themed week. He was excited to learn about ladybugs and other insects and spiders. We even discovered an interesting bug called 'Stink Bug' in our home and decided to keep it for a few days for research! Oscar got quite attached to the bug and was a little sad to release it back to nature.
He wrote a story about the Stink Bug (with a lego model), as well as one about the Black-footed Ferret.
This is A Stink Bug.
It has a body that looks like a shield.
And six legs, two antennae and a long beak.
I have a pet Stink Bug.

I found it in my house.
His name is Squirt.

Black footed ferrets live on the Prairies in North America.
They are very cute but don't let that fool you.
They are vicious hunters.
I'm also sharing a drawing of a monarch butterfly that Oscar drew and a picture of him and his dad with a "Koi-Nobori" (carp streamer) to celebrate the Japanese holiday Children's Day. Please feel free to post these on the website.
Hope you have a lovely mother's day weekend!
Anna, Oscar and Ben

A Message from Poppy:
Happy Teacher Appreciation Week Amy, Hyma and Jane! Thank you for all you do! We miss you!
I measured my sunflowers and they are 10cm tall now. My green onions, bok choy and basil are growing. I forgot to share my chicken lifecycle. I want to have chickens when I grow up so I can collect their eggs. I love lady bugs and have a new lady bug bathing suit and lady bug pajamas. I wondered if there were blue lady bugs and we looked online for pictures and discovered one that is called a Steel Blue ladybug. It doesn't have spots. We also found out that there are many pictures of blue lady bugs but they are pretend. I wondered how moths were different from butterflies. We discovered that they have many similarities but most moths go out at night while butterflies go out in the day.

Happy Mother's Day everyone!

Love Poppy

A Message from Theo:
Last week we tried bubble painting! It was really messy fun. We used one of the pages to write an invitation to a teddy bear picnic. We made salmon because bears like salmon!
We went out to the park a lot. I showed Matilda how to draw with chalk. I wrote the whole alphabet. One day it rained and we drew in the puddles. It made the chalk go runny and we could spread it using sticks like paintbrushes.
Hope everyone is well!
Love Theo

A Message from Jonah:
Dear Amy,
We all hope you had a great week. Jonah has been mixing his life with equal amounts of work, rest, and play. When he’s not doing school assignments he’s practicing how to ride a scooter, or making art. Jonah’s been using his Dad’s studio at the Museum of Contemporary Art to make ink and acrylic paintings.
Jonah enjoyed many of your weekly Activities. He especially enjoyed learning about the Life Cycle of a Chick, and the Teddy Bear Picnic STEM assignment.
Stay safe and be well.
Sincerely,
Jonah, Chris, Kara, and Miles (dog)

    Sharing Our Stories

During distanced learning our class wanted to feel connected to each other.  For this reason, we set up this page on our website.  Here the students shared their stories with one another!  Parent permission was received to post all pictures. This year, we will be using this page to show weekly student work.
